LOUISIANA – Two US drug manufacturers are facing legal challenges on how they sell drugs for erectile dysfunction, as the two firms face a legal battle that could lead to hundreds of thousands of prescriptions being filled.
Cobra, which made a quick profit of $9.5 million last year, has been in legal trouble for two years with the Food and Drug Administration, which approved Viagra and Cialis to treat erectile dysfunction in men. It will now face another challenge in the second half of this year, as it makes a profit of $5.5 million.
In an effort to get drugs to treat sexual dysfunction, Cobra filed a lawsuit with the FDA on Thursday, which alleges the firms engaged in illegal sales and marketing practices.
According to court documents, a of the drug companies, the FDA approved Viagra in November 2017 to treat erectile dysfunction, and Cialis in January 2018 to treat the common cold.
Cobra said it would only sell the drugs to men under the age of 18.
The companies that filed the lawsuit had been accused of selling the drugs to minors to treat low sexual desire, but the FDA rejected that claim last December.
The lawsuits allege the companies targeted the sale of Viagra in the US.
“Viagra and Cialis are very similar drugs, and are equally effective in treating sexual dysfunction,” said Amy Stahl, the company’s chief executive officer.
“We’re trying to protect those who may be at risk and make a profit,” Stahl said.
The FDA will eventually approve a generic version of Viagra that is sold without prescriptions for erectile dysfunction.
A spokesman for Cobra said in an emailed statement that the company would “continue to work with our lawyers to resolve any disputes regarding the safety, efficacy and potential side effects of the drugs and to ensure the litigation is completed.”

This latest legal filing is not the first time the firms have faced legal trouble over their products.Walt Heilig, executive vice president of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, said the companies’ conduct was a “lawful business practice, and we’re committed to working closely with the FDA to ensure we get a fair and informed decision on this important issue.” He said the FDA has already ruled on the legality of the firms’ conduct.A similar lawsuit has been filed by the Food and Drug Administration, in the US, which has asked that FDA approve the products.
“This is a violation of the law,” the FDA said in a statement Wednesday. The agency is also asking the firms to submit their product information for distribution. It also asked that FDA approve the products.
The firms have said they are “not aware of any of the allegations or other material provided to them.” But they are scheduled to appear in court in September, potentially joining a class action lawsuit against the companies.
“We have serious concerns and concerns that the products have caused serious harm,” said Dr. David Benes, a professor of medicine and pharmacy at Georgetown University. He said the firm has been trying to resolve the cases.
The firms are seeking FDA approval to market the products in the US and Europe.
Pfizer, which manufactures Viagra, the drug that Pfizer launched in 1998, said the firm will sell its products to US consumers who have diagnosed with erectile dysfunction.
In its lawsuit, Pfizer alleges that the firms marketing the products “have engaged in deceptive and deceptive business practices that are likely to result in consumers being harmed by the products.”
The FDA has already approved Viagra to treat low sexual desire and the common cold. It also is investigating whether the firms also sold the drugs to a group of consumers.
“This is a violation of the law,” the FDA said in a statement.

Viagra (sildenafil) is used to treat erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction is the inability to get or keep an erection for satisfactory sexual activity in men, also known as impotence. Pfizer Inc. is launching its own generic drugstore on the Canadian Patent, which will allow Canadian companies to market their version of the drug called sildenafil to the U. S. market. The company said this new generic version of Viagra will be made available in Canada and the U. market for the generic form of the drug is available by prescription only. Canadian companies would have the ability to sell the generic version of the drug for a higher price, Pfizer said. The company said the Canadian patent for the generic version of Viagra has been set to expire in April. It is currently in its final stages of court battle with the U. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Pfizer's patent on the Viagra patent expired in May 2012. The patent expired in Canada in the U. on April 15, 2013 and now extends to Canada in July 2013. The patent has also expired in the U. K. for the generic Viagra. Pfizer also has filed a lawsuit against the FDA for over-the-counter (OTC) sales of the generic Viagra. The lawsuit claims that it is unfair and deceptive in treating men suffering from erectile dysfunction.
Pfizer is currently selling its own generic version of the drug, called sildenafil, which is available in the U. for $9.99 per tablet. This is a lower dose of the erectile dysfunction drug sildenafil.
The company is offering the generic version of the drug for less than $3.99 per tablet. The company has the option to sell the generic version for more than $4 per tablet.
